‘I wasn’t mentally prepared for this’- The world’s fastest Diablo 4 player won’t tell you his secret because he’s still trying to figure it out too-

Mekuna holds the top rank in the world for Diablo 4’s new challenge dungeon, The Gauntlet, but he’s not done pushing for a better score.

Despite sitting firmly in rank 1 above every single Diablo 4 player in the world right now with a score of 1.1M, Mekuna is busy trying to push it to 1.2M. “I think there is always room for improvements/optimization,” he told PC Gamer. “Someone could optimize their path/gear better, and anything could happen.”

Blizzard released The Gauntlet yesterday and everyone is still working out the fastest way through the 8-minute dungeon. All the bosses and monsters in it are the same every run, but your character’s gear and build dictate your approach. Sorcerer players, like Mekuna, are all using Teleport to blast through the dungeon quickly, but the other skills they use vary.

You can view the current gear and build players are using on the leaderboards to get an idea of what’s popular. Most people in the top 10 are using variants of the l…

Fallout Tactics’ lead designer tips his hat to Bethesda for succeeding where they failed- ‘It can be done. You just need to be a multinational with more than 18 months’

Fallout’s had an interesting journey as a series—starting out as one of those crunchy computer CRPGs under the stewardship of Interplay Entertainment, it was then brought under the Bethesda umbrella in 2007, turning into the FPS RPG you either love or loathe depending on which games you’ve played, and how traditionalist your tastes are.

Turns out, though, there’s a dark horse sandwiched in between those two halves of the series’ history. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel was released in 2001, between Fallout 2 (1998) and Fallout 3 (2008). It was developed by Micro Forté under publishers 14 Degrees East and Bethesda Softworks, and it was, at the time, kinda controversial for die-hards.

It wasn’t really an RPG, and more of an RTS-style XCOM thing. Turning away from the previous games’ turn-based combat, Fallout Tactics instead saw you hopping between missions and Brotherhood Bunkers—there was a turn-based option, but after doing some diggi…

GreedFall 2 is more than just a eurojank Dragon Age- Origins, and it’s ticking a lot of my RPG boxes

Spiders is one of those RPG studios that I can’t help but appreciate even as I consistently bounce off its games. From the odd-couple orc and goblin shenanigans of 2012’s Of Orcs and Men to its more recent steampunk French Revolution soulslike Steel Rising, it’s got a penchant for trying new things and taking big swings. But it’s only now, with GreedFall 2, that I’m really starting to vibe with what it’s trying to do.

I should note that I’ve only played a wee bit of the original GreedFall, which GreedFall 2 is set a few years before, swapping perspectives from a coloniser exploring a fantasy realm to a kidnapping victim indigenous to it, who’s been brought to the old world against their will. Familiarity with the setting might be helpful, and the prequel does share some of its predecessor’s traits, but as per usual Spiders is not content to just do the same thing again.

GreedFall 2, which is out now in early access, initially piqued my interest because, where some deve…

Humble Bundle’s next payload features a bunch of lo-fi games to snuggle up to-

Looks like autumn’s cosy vibes are coming early—and here I’ve been, a summer-avoidant gamer goblin wishing away the sun. Titled Whimsy & Wonder: A Cosy Games collection, the Humble Bundle’s latest entry is composed of some of PC Gamer’s previous cosy faves.

Proceeds will go to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Legal Defense Fund, and the bundle’s sold over 6,700 copies at the time of writing.

Find a blanket to wrap up warm in and sink into a land of crunchy leaves and pumpkin spice. No, seriously, entering this level of cosy vibes without the proper safety equipment can be dangerous. You’ve been warned.

Cat Cafe Manager

I’ve never had the opportunity to go to a cat cafe, and I am violently jealous of those who have. I fully plan to live vicariously through Cat Cafe Manager, which looks like a mixture of Moonlighter, Stardew Valley, and Neopets—just, with actual pets rather than monsters. It’s also set in a place called …

Heads up, Arcane fans- Riot’s released a new season two teaser, and preorders are up for the fancy Blu-ray of season one-

Watch On

Attention, fellow Arcane fans: Riot knows of our anguish at there still being about three and a half months left to wait for season two’s November launch, and has seen fit to keep us going with another little crumb of a teaser. Behold: about 50 seconds of not very much happening.

Spoilers for Arcane season one ahead.

Honestly, I’ll take it. Even just this little glimpse of Heimerdinger and Ekko infiltrating the University of Piltover (perhaps to steal some vital Hextech?) is a lovely reminder of the show’s wonderful animation and performances. Heimer scampering around, making a performance out of his attempt to sneak, while hardened street kid Ekko brings up the rear looking vaguely embarrassed—it’s a little encapsulation of how full of personality these characters are, even if we don’t get to see them really do anything other than a bit of banter.

Presumably after meeting towards the end of season one, the two are now wor…

I didn’t know there were ‘iconic’ school bus designs until Bus Simulator licensed one-

Even as the world burns, the wheels on Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop just keep going round and round. People have got places to be! And a virtual bus service is one thing but, in-line with others of its Simulator ilk, the game’s sleeper hit nature means developer Stillalive Studios is adding officially licensed buses to the game.

OK this is mainly about the press release amusing me, but this does not come from a place of mockery so much as love. Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop now has a licensing deal with manufacturer Thomas Built Buses and, should players buy this DLC, it brings the “iconic school bus” that is the Saf-T-Liner C2 into the game.

This follows hot on the wheels of the “Official School Bus Extension” DLC which, unsurprisingly, added the ability to create and manage your own school bus routes in the game. So just what is this latest addition to the fleet?

“The Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 is a US-American petrol-powered school bus, equipped with 2 axles a…

I respect a bloody arcade shooter with the courage to have a name as blunt as ‘Kill Knight’-

I have to hand it to the developers of Kill Knight for their choice of title: How can I not want to know more about an arcade shooter called Kill Knight?

It is, as you’d hope and expect, about a knight who kills. It’s fast, violent, and coated in red, not unlike Doom Eternal. Developer PlaySide Studios—who, it should be noted, is still holding onto an NFT MMO project in development—describes the game as an “ultra-responsive arcade-inspired isometric action shooter,” which is a mouthful, but makes it sound like it’s somewhere between Supergiant’s roguelike Hades and the original Helldivers.

The trailer, which debuted at the Triple-I Initiative indie games event today, races through brief shots of a knight shooting rocket launchers and other guns into overwhelming waves of enemies. The battle arenas are carved out of stone and suspended in the red expanse that makes up the “Abyss” where the game takes place. You play as an undead knight whose only goal is to ca…
